Driving into Spanish cities: a practical low-emission zone guide

Practical advice for driving into Spanish cities with low-emission zones: plan your route, park outside and avoid fines.

Updated 5 November 2026

More and more Spanish cities have low-emission zones. Rules, hours and enforcement dates vary widely: some zones cover only the historic centre, others most of the municipality.

Plan before you go

  1. Check the list of cities and the map.
  2. Run your vehicle through the checker.
  3. Look for parking outside the zone or park-and-ride facilities with public transport.
  4. Check the official city council page the day before: rules can change.

Road signs do not always tell you whether a zone is actively fining. We show the legal, operational and enforcement status separately.
