Getxo low-emission zone (ZBE): rules, labels & fines

Getxo has no low emission zone ordinance and no defined zone. In December 2025 the local government started tendering equipment for traffic and air-quality control in future low emission zones (about EUR 269,000 including VAT, over two years). As of January 2026, press reports said the streets and start date were still undecided. No later approval was found.

Notes: Based on local press only; getxo.eus could not be searched (its search returned errors). On 23 Dec 2025 the Junta de Gobierno approved starting the tender for supplying and installing traffic-regulation and environmental-quality control equipment for the ZBEs. The scope includes particle monitors, sensors and retractable bollards; the budget is EUR 269,010.85 including VAT (EUR 222,323 excluding VAT) over two years. The councillor said technical studies were still deciding which streets would be affected. Diario de Getxo is an opinion outlet critical of the measure. Third-party aggregator pages listing Getxo restrictions and fines were not confirmed by any official source.
