Mérida low-emission zone (ZBE): rules, labels & fines

Mérida's ZBE ordinance was definitively approved on 28 May 2026 and published in the Badajoz provincial bulletin on 23 September 2026, entering into force in October 2026, according to a third-party guide. Vehicles with B, C, ECO or 0 labels and those paying vehicle tax in Mérida may enter freely; other unlabelled vehicles need authorisation (up to 8 a month for occasional access). Fines of EUR 200 would come only six months after restrictions and automatic control start, and the cameras remain sealed after a court annulled their contract in 2025. No fines are issued.

Notes: The guide says the TSJ of Extremadura annulled the camera contract in 2025 and cameras remain sealed; this concerns the contract, not the ordinance, so judicial status of the ZBE is 'none_known'. Exact entry-into-force date (15 working days after 23 Sep 2026) not confirmed.
